Where can the art of the sea be found?
It is located on a point on the compass where passion and heart intersect with brilliance and skill. It can be found in one photograph from the Rosenfeld Collection at Mystic Seaport. One of one million photos taken by three generations of passionate seamen.
Today that photograph – Flying Spinnaker – which first appeared on the cover of Life Magazine in 1938 – is but one of an astonishing collection under the care and supervision of the archivists at Mystic Seaport. These photos capture breathtaking moments in time, highlighting the power and drama of the sea and the men and women who dared to sail it in the fastest and most beautiful of boats. But that only touches but a fragment of the collection.
You’re invited to fall in love with these magnificent images this summer when you visit Mystic Seaport.
