Like many areas across the country, Montana has experienced a boom in microbreweries in recent years. The breweries differ vastly in scope and not just in the taste of their products, but in the names they enlist to identify their brews. From the neatly understated Bayern Amber to the wackier Moose Drool and Slow Elk, Montana beers span the tastes and styles of the great microbrew spectrum. Here are six Montana breweries that provide a very important cross-sampling of the Big Sky Country’s brewing scene, along with the fundamental stats.
Big Sky Brewing Company
Moose Drool may be the tastiest Brown Ale you will ever encounter, and it is the best-selling beer manufactured in Montana for good reason. Chocolate brown in shade, with a creamy texture, this malty beer has just enough hop authority to prevent it from being too saccharine. Moose Drool’s tang comes primarily from the malt with a trace of spice contributed by the hops. The signature Montana brew is fermented with soft caramel chocolate and full black malts.
Bitter Root Brewing
Bitter Root Brewery provides a likable combination of essential elements: terrific food, great brew, live music, and it is an unmistakably friendly locale. No selection disappoints at Bitter Root Brewing.
Bozeman Brewing Company
Bozone Select is the core beer from Bozeman Brewing Company. The Bozone Select is mellow amber ale that has a standard malt essence gently composed by a trace of hops for a stable, refreshing finish. Dry hopped with Cascade hops for a sensible, steady aroma.
Great Northern Brewing Company
The Great Northern Brewery was constructed during the fall of 1994 to produce Black Star Golden Lager and other lager beers. Great Northern Brewing Company brews twelve ales and lagers in a plethora of year round and seasonal styles. Many of its beers are available on draught, or can be picked up in state.
Tim O’Leary, a third generation Montanan, was the channeling force behind the growth, development and awesome transformation of the Kettlehouse into a small, popular microbrewery and cozy neighborhood taproom. Good times abound at the Kettlehouse.
