About Me
My name is Mateo, and I am an artist, and sometimes a 'slumlord'. I love living in Chico, California because of the Weather! It's also beautiful and uncrowded, at least by California standards.
You have to go to
Butte Canyon, aka the "Mini-Grand Canyon"
Here's one fun activity you can do
Go hiking in Bidwell Park. It's the third largest municipal park in California, and one of the 25 largest city parks in the United States.
Don't forget to check out one of my favorite places
You'll find a great selection at the Saturday morning Farmers Market in downtown Chico. In a largely rural and somewhat conservative area, it's also where the local 'counter culture' hangs out.
Enjoy a meal at my favorite restaurant
So many choices, from terrific sushi to dozens of great food trucks scattered around town. My favorite is Shubert's at 178 E. 7th in downtown Chico, with delicious homemade ice- cream. It's perfect on a hot summer day.
Here's a doable bucket list for you to do in one day
1. Visit Lake Oroville
2. Check out the Honey Run covered bridge
3. Have a meal at Scotty's Landing Bar & Eatery on the Sacramento River,
4 Go for a dip in the pool in lower Bidwell Park (it's naturally fed by Butte Creek).
5. Take a tour at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. (free samples included).
6. Drive along the Skyway to the nearby town of Paradise in the Sierra foothills.
7. Go to one of the many wine tasting outlets in Chico,
8. Enjoy the Concerts in the Park series,
My extra insider tip for you is
Be here for the weekly Farmers Market on Thursday evenings during the summer. The city closes the main street downtown, and you'll find different craft and food booths as well as live music.
