You have to go to
The Zócalo in the historic center is one of the must-see places. You also find a lot museums, places to eat or something to do nearby.
Here's one fun activity you can do
Trajineras in Xochimilco. This is a place to have party but i suggest to go with a big group. The trajineras is a king of boat so you go in a travel of 2-3 hours with food and something to drink, the tipical trajineras was with mariachis but the new generations go with stereos and all kind of music to dance.
Don't forget to check out one of my favorite places
The Cineteca Nacional. This is a very special cinema where you can see a movie in the outdoor forum, have a drink, and sometimes there are concerts. At night you can go to the top of the parking garage and have an incredible view of the city.
Enjoy a meal at my favorite restaurant
Mercado de San Juan is a market in the historic center with different kinds of Mexican food. It's a good place to go and a good place to have meal.
Here's a doable bucket list for you to do in one day
In my opinion, there are 3 places in Mexico City you have to know:
1. The historic center
2. Chapultepec Castle
3, Palacio de Bellas Artes
These places are near each other, so you can reach them by foot. Enjoy the walk along the Street of Reforma to get to them.
My extra insider tip for you is
Don´t be afraid! People have said that Mexico City is dangerous, but if you take precautions, as you would in any other city, you'll surely have a great time here.
