About Me
My name is Charlotte, and I am a French teacher. I love living in Malang, Java because it's a small city, not too cold, not too hot. The people are friendly and simple.

You have to go to
The splendid Birds and Flowers Market.
Here's one fun activity you can do
Try the traditional medicine named "jamu." You can find an old shop near a Chinese temple near the big market (Pasar Besar). Jamu is a healthy drink of herbal medicine and can cure different ailments.
Don't forget to check out one of my favorite places
The alun-alun - it's the central square of Malang city. It's special because you can see the beautiful mosque and church and the Malang people just hanging out with their families and friends.
Enjoy a meal at my favorite restaurant
To eat "rawon" at Rawon Nguling restaurant. It's specialty of East Java. You'll find the restaurant near the central square (alun-alun).
Here's a doable bucket list for you to do in one day
1. Visit the various Chinese temples in the city, such as Eng An Kiong.
2. Go to Bentol Museum (it's about cigarettes from Malang)
3. Visit a sugar cane enterprise.
4. Eat the best "bakso soup" of East Java.
5. Visit the Museum Malang Tempo Doeloe to learn more about Malang's history.
My extra insider tip for you is
Just walk around Malang by foot. You'll see buildings from the Dutch Colonization era, real Indonesian lifestyle and try the street food. If you have more time to explore the area, there are beautiful beaches south of Malang are 2 to 3 hours away.
