About Me
My name is Ted, and I am a civil servant. I love living in Taipei because it's a wonderfully dynamic city that is undeniably convenient. Good, cheap food is abundant, the infrastructure is excellent, crime is almost non-existent and the locals are very friendly. It also makes a fantastic base more/less
You have to go to
For me, I love the layout and design of the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial would be the one must-see site, as it has several different and very beautiful components. In addition to the memorial itself, both the National Theater and the National Concert Hall are also on the grounds here, as well as some very pretty landscaped gardens.
Here's one fun activity you can do
Taipei is surrounded by beautiful lush, green mountains. You can take a glass bottom gondola ride (Maokong Gondola) over tea plantations to the area called Maokong. The gondola ride is by itself a fantastic experience, but once you are in Maokong, there are several nice places to go and have lunch and/or experience a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.
Don't forget to check out one of my favorite places
When you visit the Lin Family Garden and Mansion it is like stepping back in time. This gently sprawling historical home has been carefully restored many times and is truly gem. Allow a good 2 hours to meander the grounds. There are many secluded little corners where one can sit and take it all in. It´s location in New Taipei City means it is often part of the mainstream top list of places to visit in Taipei, unless you´re lucky enough to get the tip to go here.
Enjoy a meal at my favorite restaurant
Nanmen Market
Here's a doable bucket list for you to do in one day
1. Taipei 101 observatory
2. Chiang Kai Shek Memorial
3. Lin Family Mansion and Garden
4. Longshan Temple
5. Ximen District
My extra insider tip for you is
The kitchen in the Grand Hotel has a secret emergency slide that was to be used by the president if China would invade. This secret slide starts in the kitchen at Grand Hotel and spits you out at the other end in nearby Zhongshan Airport. N.B. the slide can only be viewed by guests staying at Grand Hotel.
