Gastropubs and Other New Dining Experiences in Henderson, NV

Gastropubs seem to be taking over Henderson, with the addition of two new venues in The District @ GVR. Gastropubs are simply pubs with additude and food designed for the more advanced palate (gastro: stomach, pub:pub). While they are all the rage, they are not to be outdone by the new Bistro, Ale House, Sugar Factory and Frozen Yogurt joints in this part of town. Henderson is truly branching out to include something for almost everything in dining pleasure.

Whist Stove and Spirits at 2235 Village Walk Drive in The District is a brand new adventure that’s still working out the kinks. The décor is inviting and warm with all the touches of velvet and atmosphere—a breath of fresh air for Henderson. The food is delicious and well-presented, with different fare than the usual pub eats (being a gastropub, of course). The service may still need a touch-up with inexperienced staff not quite used to the menu, but all-in-all, it is well worth visiting for some truly delicious treats and unique drinks.

Due & Proper

With its signature red door, Due & Proper (named after a line in Gangs of New York) is a new English-themed pub, which has just opened in The District, and features British pub fare in a comfortable, neighborhood-friendly environment. From the mismatched chairs and wrought-iron candle chandeliers to the huge lounge, bar and patio for indoor/outdoor dining, this pub provides all the atmosphere you can handle. The emphasis is on the beer, of course, but the delicious cocktails are cleverly named and the food is suitable for sharing and sampling.

Millers Henderson Ale House, 594 Stephanie Street, Henderson, NV, has it all. This is the tavern to call your own (much as was Cheers), where you can watch the game with the gang while savoring some tasty spuds and even tastier steaks, seafood or Buffalo Wings. The emphasis is, of course, on the brew and there are over 75 beers from which to choose. It’s comfortable, it’s casual and it’s a place where everyone may, indeed, know your name (photo by urbanspoon.com).

The menu is “California Fresh” and promises a flavorful delight that is different from most fare in the area. The lunch and dinner menu are simply tasty, with unique appetizers (Roasted Farm Beets & Herbed Goat Cheese, seafood or escargot) and “Soup and Things to Share.” Entrées include Bistro Salads, Gazpacho or Onion Soup.

Las Vegas Town Square Sugar Factory American Brasserie may not quite be in Henderson, but Town Square is close enough to make it well worth the mention. This tasty establishment features pancakes and sweet/savory crepes, burgers, pizzas and salads throughout the day. The desserts are, of course, the sweetest treats of all, with custom ice-cream cones (from red velvet to Oreo) and more. You can also shop for chocolate and all kinds of delectable favorites to fill that last bit of sweet tooth remaining after devouring their specialties. Yum.
