Vienna is one of the music capitals of the world, and it would be a shame not to attend a concert or two while visiting. It is very easy to arrange concert tickets before arriving in Vienna: that way, you can ensure that you will experience exactly the dates, times and types of music that you really want. Below are two great options.
#1. The Musik Verein, a wonderful pinkish building, close to Karlskirche, is where the famous annual New Year’s Day concert is held. But, here there are concerts almost every day of the year. There are various halls (saals) and various price ranges. My favorite is the Brahams Saal, very ornate with gilded walls, molded ceilings and many chandeliers, and perfect for chamber music.
On the web, go to www.musikverein.at, click on English and follow the easy prompts to concert programs and seating, then concerts, and under the month and day selected you can make a reservation, using a credit card.

You can pick up your tickets any time at the box office, including on the day of the concert. Box office address is Bosendorferstrasse 12 (on the side of the Musik Verein building). U-bahn station is Karlsplatz, on U1,
U2, and U4.
#2. For a very special occasion, why not treat yourself to dinner and a concert at Schonnbrunn Palace? This beautiful palace was the summer residence of the Hapsburgs, and concerts are held regularly April 1–October 31 in the Orangerie. The program features selections from Mozart and the Strauss family, possibly the most popular composers in Vienna.
Dinners are in the Residenz Restaurant, on the left of the main palace entrance gates before entering the actual palace. We did the package that included dinner at 6:30pm and a concert at 8:00pm. Dinner is a formal 3-course set menu, exquisitely served, each dish presented as a work of art on fine china, with all the luxurious trappings to accompany it (drinks are extra, unless you add them to your package beforehand).
Each package, with combinations of dinner, concert and palace tour, has three levels, dependent on different concert seating. The cheapest is the Imperial level, which we found to be a perfectly acceptable view.
On the web, go to www.imagevienna.com and find the British flag on the top right. Then click on Concerts, and on the next page Palace Concerts and/or An Evening at Schonbrunn. Package 1 is dinner and concert; Package 2 is audio-guide tour of the Palace, and concert; Package 3 is audio-guide tour of the Palace, dinner and concert.
You can pick up your tickets anytime at the palace box office, including the evening of the concert. The box office is almost directly opposite the traffic light as you cross the road when leaving the U-bahn station exit. (Station is Schonnbrunn on U4, or green, line)
