Cancun: Perfect Honeymoon Destination

For a newly-married couple, the honeymoon is like a fuel that helps to start a new chapter. It’s the time when you can press the pause button on your life and drown in love.

You already have everything for the perfect vacation – your spouse. Now you only need to find the destination that lets you forget about everything else. Whether you are adventure junkies, daring foodies or stay-on-the-beach-the-whole-day people, Cancun might be an excellent destination for your deserved post-wedding getaway.

Cancun is located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo on the Caribbean Sea. There you can find small Mayan vestiges of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, the longest underwater cave and the second largest barrier reef in the world. Let’s explore the area rich in history and culture together:

The hotel zone

According to Cancun Care, there are around 150 hotels and over 350 restaurants on the Caribbean Coast. New hotels are constantly opening; the variety gives you the chance to negotiate deals and save some cash. If you want to lay in the sun and do absolutely nothing (with your significant other next to you), there are plenty of affordable all-inclusive hotels.

Besides souvenir shops, bars and views of the ocean, you can also see Mayan ruins without having to leave the hotel zone. So, if you like visiting historical places and your spouse loves beach life, you will be able to find compromises in Cancun.

Some all-inclusive hotels offer a transfer from the airport. You can also take a bus that goes directly to the hotel zone; it is just 19 kilometers away from the airport.

Underwater museum

In 2009, a group of divers placed around 100 statues in the shallow waters of Cancun National Marine Park. Nowadays, there are more than 500 sculptures beneath the waters of the ocean, which makes the Cancun Underwater Museum (MUSA) one of the best tourist attractions in the world.

You can travel to the museum by boat and then dive into the crystal-clear water to see the underwater world. All the sculptures look quite realistic; you can even see the smiles on their faces.

So, if you and your spouse like scuba diving or snorkeling, this museum should be definitely on your list.

Underwater cave

Honeymoon is all about creating memories with your loved one. Cancun is full of unusual places, and Rio Secreto is one of them. Consider going on a full-day excursion and swimming through an underground river. The best thing is that you can explore the hidden world no matter the season.

The entry ticket to the park costs $90. If you and your partner are avid divers, you can explore the longest underwater cave on your own.

Turtle zone

Cancun is also a place where you can spot sea turtles. Each year, thousands of sea turtles come to Cancun at the beginning of May.

You will see hundreds of turtles on the beach and in the Carribean waters while swimming or scuba diving. It’s illegal to steal their eggs or take them to the hotel room since they are protected species. It is also recommended not to disturb them by taking pictures. The best places to see the turtles up close are Tortugranja and Akumal ( the coastal resorts on Mexico’s Riviera Maya).

If you come to Cancun during the summer, you will have a chance to participate in the sea turtle protection efforts and see how baby turtles make their journey in the Caribbean Sea for the first time.

Shopping

After so many activities, you might want to spend a day shopping in Cancun. There not only souvenir shops in the city.

It is important to mention that the cost of living in Mexico is lower than in the United States or Canada, so you might find some clothes, cosmetics, or any other products at a reasonable price. In addition to the malls in the hotel zone, you can also go to the Coral Negro Flea Market, Las Plazas Outlet, and Mercado 28 (the flea market).

Tropical paradise

Not everyone knows that Hurricane Wilma wrecked eight miles of beaches in Cancun in 2005. It took a year and $70 million to dredge up one billion gallons of sand from the sea bed.

Nowadays, the white sands in Cancun are made out of crushed coral; you can walk barefoot in the sand without burning yourself. The list of the best places for swimming and sunbathing includes Playa Delfines, Puerto Morelos, Playa Chac Mool, Playa Tortugas, and Playa Forum. The peak season starts in December and finishes in April. It is sweltering in Cancun during the summer months and the fall months are prone to storms.

Cancun is filled with activities and beautiful sights. It’s difficult to imagine that 50 years ago, only three people were living in that tropical paradise. There is everything for a great vacation with your significant other: warm weather, white beaches, and crystal waters. What else could newly-weds wish for?
